What is Love Lust Lost?
Love Lust Lost is an immersive theatre show by Broad Encounters. Audiences are transported to the shimmering, subterranean world of Captain Anderson, the captain of the E.V. Nautilus, an underwater vessel unlike any other.
Inspired by great literary works including Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, audiences unravel the mysteries of this immersive world and its multi-layered plot by exploring the vast 40+ room set at their own pace.
Every audience member will experience a different version of the show, as they choose which characters to follow, and which path to take to discover secret rooms, bars and experiences. Love Lust Lost has many scenes within the show, and audiences will see circus, theatre, dance and live music and use sight, sound, touch, and even smell and taste to experience these scenes and explore the world.
What is immersive theatre?
Immersive theatre is a style of live theatre that aims to make audiences active participants in a performance experience, rather than passive observers of a show. A traditional theatre show locks audiences into a single view of the action from a seat. During an immersive theatre experience, audiences are often able to move around the set freely, with the action happening all around them. Audience members can choose to interact with the cast (or not), can choose to follow scenes they are interested in, and move on from scenes they are not interested in. The result is an engaging and personal experience for each and every audience member. Australia’s most acclaimed large-scale immersive theatre production was A Midnight Visit by Broad Encounters. Another famous international example is Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More.
